This Supernatural Story
The acclaimed director challenges his film-making abilities through this nifty supernatural story captured wholly from the viewpoint of a ghost. As a family including mother Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe occupies their fresh home, the filming device – as the unseen entity – shadows their actions. The daughter appears conscious of the supernatural presence, and it seems defensive toward her. However, the motive remains? It's a fun idea that avoids overstaying, featuring a surprise that could catch you off guard. Saturday 11 October, multiple showings, the Sky channel

This Creepy Thriller
The director's contained scarefest holds up well even without a continuation. Set in 1978 Denver, several kidnappings has left the youth on edge. Once Finney is kidnapped by “the Grabber” and held captive in a basement, he anticipates the worst. However, the old telephone on the wall keeps ringing, with eerie communicators offering help, and the prescient dreams of his sister Gwen might rescue him. A genuinely scary movie. October 11th, nighttime, the Film4 channel
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the battle between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for materialism in Showalter's delightfully tacky film adaptation about the fallen televangelist and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield plays the venal Jim, who declares at the beginning, asserting religious justification for riches. He and Tammy Faye commence profiting from the people's religious faith. It's a riot of poor styling, bad makeup and hypocrisy, yet the lead actress achieves to show Tammy Faye as a sympathetic figure. Next Tuesday, late night, on Film4
The Spy Mystery
This period's second offering from Steven Soderbergh delivers a spy mystery as precise like the turtlenecks worn by Michael Fassbender's intelligence officer. His assignment is to identify a traitor within their ranks from five suspects – among them is his own wife. Both actors are experts of understated style, so a delicious mental battle of fact versus fiction unfolds. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela take part the clever spy entertainment. October 17th, various showings, Sky Cinema Premiere
